The Future is Flexible: leading airport’s IT Transformation Enables Seamless Collaboration and Boosts Resilience
The Client
As a critical part of the UK’s national transport infrastructure this airport operates hundreds of thousands of flights and serves tens of millions of passengers annually.
The Challenge
During the COVID pandemic customer swiftly moved to remote working for the majority of its IT team creating new challenges around end-user experience and flexible working. The provisioning of technology and applications to business-critical staff was made more difficult by outmoded practices and undeveloped systems. The customer needed to upgrade its End User Computing provision swiftly to adapt to the new working environment and put in place a robust strategy for enabling IT personnel as the airport returned to normal operating volumes post-pandemic. Addressing these issues will drive productivity, security, and collaboration improvements while aligning IT with the organization's goals and environmental sustainability.
Platform Smart’s Solution Overview
Platform Smart engaged the customer with its flexible consultancy service and mobilised trusted associates to Operations, Architecture, InfoSec and Desktop support to determine opportunities based on current working practices. The assessment of the current environment highlighted potential weaknesses, reviewed best-of-breed offerings and presented an architectural target view in line with the emerging and changing business needs for EUC.
Platform Smart delivered a three-stage strategy for the Next Generation End User Experience to transform IT capabilities within minimum resource and cost commitment whilst improving the customer’s sustainability.
The Outcome
Over the past 2 years we have seen the fruits of the strategy as more and more non-operational workers are engaged in the flexible strategy than ever before. The project has delivered an array of significant positive outcomes, sparking a surge in demand for Flexible Working. The workforce can now operate from home or remote location, as well as within the airport campus, fostering seamless collaboration with colleagues, customers, and partners. Furthermore, the Platform Smart strategy has bolstered the customer’s resilience, and ability to adeptly handle disruptions such as the pandemic, weather or transportation interruptions, and infrastructure incidents. The airport’s IT and Information Security practices have reached new heights, optimizing resource utilization and fortifying network defences against modern threats.
